Awareness of Drink Spiking is gradually gaining momentum and these three women were alert and helped thwart a date rape attempt. They are heroes and we all need to stand up against this criminal offence. The staff at the Fig restaurant in Santa Monica should also be hailed as heroes as they could have been concerned about their restaurant being implicated with drink spiking and tarnishing the restaurant’s reputation. We have come across many bars and clubs that deny that drink spiking is a problem because either they don’t believe their clients when they ask for help or need assistance, or they don’t want to be implicated and have their venue associated with drink spiking. At the Fig restaurant, however, everyone worked together to prevent a woman becoming a sexual assault victim. If the restaurant or any of the women involved had had a Drink Detective with them, they would have known instantly that there was a problem – that a criminal offence had taken place. But they got there in time, and this is what matters most.
