NOTE TO ALL MEN

Of the 2.2 million full time female students, they are or will become sisters, mothers, wives, girlfriends, aunts, just like yours, who may end up being sexually assaulted, raped, robbed, or suffer other crimes, because a man decided to drug them.

Have you ever spiked someone’s drink? Look in the mirror and ask yourself if that’s cool? Is it ok as long as its not your family? It is not cool and it may well be one of your family one day.

Do your friends spike drinks? Have you stood by, and done nothing?

Have you ever considered the victims? Waking up, not knowing what happened, not understanding, but fearful of a being a victim of a crime they may never remember, but may bear the physical and mental scars forever.

What are you going to do to stop drink spiking?

If you care about your family and friends, if you care about creating and living in a safer society, then get involved and give time and commitment to helping someone else’s, family member, it can be the next time you see someone who needs help. Drink Spiking can happen to anyone.

The time is always right, to do the right thing.

DOING THE RIGHT THING

Of course ‘Drink Spiking’ can happen to anyone and indeed a lot of men are also victims. We of course support them, and are here to help. However our voice emphasises stopping drink spiking, and of encouraging people to both be aware and to speak up if and when they see it happening.

In this context, being a Man is about having the courage to say: Stop, No, this is wrong.

Sadly, drink spiking is seen by many of the perpetrators as a game, Harmless fun, not a big deal. It is however a big deal, deeply harmful and illegal, it can lead to drug induced rape and in some cases death.

Drink Spiking’ can happen to anyone. However, when men deliberately incapacitate women by drugging their drinks for the purpose of sexual assault or other crimes, their victim may be a mother, a sister, a wife, a daughter and are probably part of a family somewhere, just like some members of your family. Consider this, by being active, you become part of a movement that begins to change how people behave, and that will make the many social moments we enjoy safer for everyone.

Not being a coward challenges Men to step-up and do the right thing – to play their part in helping change behavior and stop Drink spiking.

HOW YOU CAN BECOME PART OF THE MOVEMENT TO STOP DRINK SPIKING?

• Acknowledge that drink spiking is a crime.
• Make sure your friends understand that it is a crime.
• Understand that if someone doesn’t or won’t consent to sex, it is sexual assault.
• Make sure your friends understand that if someone doesn’t or won’t consent to sex, it is sexual assault.
• Hold your friends accountable, step in if you know that there is a risk of someone having their drink spiked.
• Take responsibility, get involved, don’t be a bystander if you see someone who needs help.
• Don’t wake up the next day, wondering what happened to someone who may have been at risk, no-one is left alone.
• Become an ambassador for #NotInMyDrink, make a difference, help to make being social safe for everyone.
